Jean-Francois Gailleur

Founder, Gailleur Labs

Gailleur Labs is an AI-first company. The bet is that software will be built by small teams of AI agents working alongside few people per team — so that is how we build it. Agents do the design, the engineering, the testing, the developer tooling and the writing; a person sets the direction and rules on the calls that matter. The first product is Domi Agent (domiapp.ai), the Household Office — an AI-native operating system for running a household, built for families in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and France. This site is the open dev log; more will follow.

I'm Jean-Francois Gailleur — a techno-optimist and an engineering leader based in Montreal, with an MBA and an engineering degree. Over 35+ years I've built and scaled software, data, AI and security products across payments, e-commerce, cybersecurity and home care. I'm a hands-on builder too: machines and race cars, furniture, a house — wood, metal, electrical systems, engines, electronics. And obviously software.

I started out writing expert-system software for the acoustic discretion systems of French nuclear submarines — where staying unnoticed is the entire specification. I founded my own company early, Psilog, working in payments and network security, and sold it to Inetum (formerly Gfi Informatique) after four years. Gemplus then brought me to North America, to Montreal, to introduce smart cards for GSM phones, banking and digital security — including a project with Microsoft in Seattle. It went public in December 2000. Then 10+ years in internet security, part of it with the legendary Montreal company Zero Knowledge Systems, which became Radialpoint and exited to TA Associates. Since then I've led engineering at Elevate Security (acquired by Mimecast), driven engineering excellence at AppDirect, and held senior leadership roles at hybris (acquired by SAP), running distributed teams across Europe, Asia and the Americas. Six companies, five exits, one I built myself.

Today I'm Senior Vice President, Engineering and Information Security at AlayaCare, leading global engineering teams across Canada, the USA, Brazil and Australia — including 24/7 site reliability and information security — to scale the cloud platform powering the future of home and community healthcare. I also taught data warehousing, business intelligence and machine learning to master's students as a part-time lecturer at École de technologie supérieure.

Gailleur Labs runs on the side of my day job as a way to experiment — about ten hours a week of my own time, plus a team of AI agents that keeps different hours and works mostly through the night, Eastern time. Domi Agent is its first build.

This site is the lab's public sprint diary — written from the perspective of someone who is also its only user at this stage. New posts go up at the end of each sprint.

If you want the highlights and not the build process, wait six months and there will be one post that summarizes the whole thing. Domi Agent is in private beta now — you can request an invitation. If you want the actual sequence of decisions — including the wrong ones — subscribe via RSS or check back regularly.
