mdwisp
Markdown. Nothing else.
A minimalist Markdown viewer and editor that protects your privacy.
free · open source · macOS, Windows and Linux
>why_it_is_small
Markdown is useful because it is plain text you control. mdwisp keeps that promise when you open the file: it uses the operating system's webview rather than shipping an embedded browser, and it does not add an account, a cloud service or a document database around your notes.
It gives the format a comfortable reading view, direct editing and a source view, then stays out of the way.
>privacy_and_safety
- No background network activity. There is no telemetry, no CDN and no automatic update check. The app connects only when you choose Check for Updates.
- Documents cannot run code. Markdown is sanitised before rendering, and the application window runs under a strict Content Security Policy.
- Your files remain files. mdwisp follows changes on disk and warns before overwriting work that changed elsewhere.
>what_it_handles
- Reading, WYSIWYG editing and source views.
- GitHub-flavoured Markdown, tables, task lists and footnotes.
- Maths and Mermaid diagrams.
- Tabs, an outline, find and replace, and a block picker.
- Printing and PDF export without leaving the app.
